The TOP 5 New Thrillers to Read this November
By #1 Bestselling Author Matt Miksa
For me, the approaching holiday season means spending lots of snowy days binge reading new thrillers (whenever I’m not supposed to be writing them). Here’s a list of five new releases that I can’t wait to dive into.
#5
MERCY
By David Baldacci
As a former FBI counterintelligence analyst, I’m a sucker for novels about The Bureau. MERCY is the fourth installment in the series featuring FBI Special Agent Atlee Pine. She finally learns the truth behind her sister’s disappearance. Turns out, Mercy escaped her captors years ago, but is she still alive? Get ready for some character backstory bombshells!

#4
By Patricia Cornwell
It’s been five years since Patricia Cornwell’s CHAOS, but Dr. Kay Scarpetta is back! In AUTOPSY, Scarpetta returns to Virginia as a chief medical examiner (just like old times) where she simultaneously investigates two murders: one near her new neighborhood of Alexandria and another aboard a secret space lab (yes!). Somehow, the trails of both murders intersect and lead her investigation dangerously close to home. This is such a creative and ambitious concept. I can’t wait to find out what happens.

THE DARK HOURS
By Michael Connelly
The fourth book of the Renée Ballard and Harry Bosch series takes place in a Los Angeles torn apart by the pandemic and widespread social unrest. In THE DARK HOURS, an auto shop owner is shot and killed in the middle of a crowd on New Year’s Eve. I was initially drawn to this book because my next release, DON’T GET CLOSE, also opens with a murder during a New Year’s Eve countdown. Connelly’s tale is quite different, however, as LAPD detective Ballard works to solve a cold case while chasing down a very active group of serial rapists.

NEVER
By Ken Follett
As a fan of Follett’s early work, like EYE OF THE NEEDLE and THE MAN FROM ST. PETERSBURG, I’m excited that his next release is a modern political thriller steeped in international intrigue. In NEVER, the first female U.S. President, Pauline Green, battles terrorist attacks, an increasingly aggressive China, and a formidable political opponent, all while juggling complex alliances and attempting to prevent the next world war.
Follett’s epic historical fiction (PILLARS OF THE EARTH and the Century Trilogy) proved how skillfully he takes the time to develop multidimensional characters who feel like real people, a quality often lacking in the modern spy thriller genre. NEVER is sure to be an instant classic.

HER NAME IS KNIGHT
By Yasmin Angoe
I’ve been counting down the days to the release of this highly anticipated debut from Yasmin Angoe. The book’s main character, Nina Knight, was a childhood victim of human trafficking before she grew up to become an elite assassin working for a shadowy organization called the Tribe. Her new assignment gets complicated when she uncovers sinister connections between a member of the Tribe and the people who razed her Ghanaian village and sold her into captivity decades earlier. What’s more satisfying than a character-driven revenge tale?
