True Reincarnation Files: James
The following is a true story…
One night, a two-year-old boy named James thrashed around in his small bed. He awoke panicked and sweating. He’d been screaming, “Airplane crash on fire! Little Man can’t get out!” His parents rushed to his bedroom and listened as he described a chilling nightmare. In it, James was a WWII fighter pilot whose plane, shot by the Japanese, plummeted toward the ocean in a swirl of smoke, engine ablaze. The horrific nightmares continued, until James came to believe they weren’t dreams at all, but memories of a past life.
Over time, more details burst from James’s subconscious. He remembered his first name in that former life was also James, his ship was named Natoma, and he was friends with another pilot, Jack Larsen. With such specific information, James’s parents were able to confirm the service of a pilot named James Huston aboard the USS Natoma Bay, which sailed off the coast of Japan during WWII.
Remarkably, James Huston’s plane was indeed shot down by Japanese antiaircraft fire during the Iwo Jima operation in 1945. His plane had caught fire and crashed into the Pacific. He was the only Natoma Bay pilot to die in that operation.
James said his friend in that life, Jack Larsen, had witnessed his plane go down. Determined to investigate his son’s story, James’s father attended a reunion of Natoma Bay sailors where he confirmed that another pilot named Jack Larsen also had served on the ship. An official aircraft action report confirmed that Larsen was flying alongside Huston’s plane when it was shot.
James’s ability to recall vivid details of a purported former life makes his case of possible reincarnation one of the most compelling. James explained that Corsair aircraft always got flat tires after hard landings—a fact confirmed by veteran WWII pilots. James also had said his father in that previous life had been an alcoholic and that he’d had two sisters, Annie and Ruth.
One TV producer actually tracked down Annie Huston, then eighty-four, who confirmed this family history. She shared a picture of her late brother, James Huston, standing beside a Corsair. It reminded James’s father of the many drawings his young son had made of the distinctive aircraft. James always signed these sketches “James 3.” When asked why, the little boy explained, “I’m the third James. I’m James 3.”
In fact, James Huston was a junior, so the toddler now signing his artwork with crayon, the supposed reincarnation of a WWII pilot killed sixty years before, may have been the third James in the chain after all.
